Google Sketchup is a free program that lets you build 3D drawings on your computer. This program is already installed on all of the computers in our lab but you would like to try it at home you can find it here or by clicking on the picture on the left.
Level 1 - Build and Measure a Building With Basic Shapes
Any creation within SketchUp starts with basic shapes. Using shapes and the push/pull tool create at least one 3D shape.
| |
Level 2 - Add More Advanced Shapes and Colors
By using the different drawing tools together you can create almost any shape imaginable. Incorporate at least 1 advanced shape into your building. Be careful not to let the shape become too distorted. These shapes should blend into the design of your building.

Level 3 - Import Extra Features
Sketchup lets you import locations from anywhere in Google Earth. Import a location and find an appropriate place for your building. Sketchup also gives you access to the Warehouse, which is full of models made by Sketchup users from around the globe! Import at least 1 model from the warehouse and place it with your building. Be careful about importing too much, you could use up too much memory and make it difficult for Sketchup to run! | |
Finish It!
| Make sure a copy of your building is saved in your class folder. When you are finished, take a picture of your building. Even if you imported other buildings from your warehouse the building you created must be the focus of the picture. Print one copy of this picture and save a digital copy in your folder. |
